While much of the national focus has been on the cyclonic weather and resultant floods in South Australia, here in Benalla we all know only too well it’s been, well, very wet.
Bureau of Meteorology statistics during the past decade show this September has been the wettest by far, with a record 139.9mm of rain.
That’s more than double the nearest monthly total of 68.7mm for September 2010.
That year the rain kept falling with October having 108.1mm, and the annual total way above the average at 945.7mm.
In fact according to Benalla’s weather forecaster Peter Nelson, it’s the wettest September on record, with the previous record being in 1975 with 137.8mm.
The year-to-date rainfall of 645mm is already above the total annual average.
