It’s a busy month for Winton Wetlands with the return of the Wetlands Restoration Science forum and the launch of its ‘Shoot and Share’ photo competition.

The science forum will take place on August 17 and 18 and is the third in a series of events aimed at providing support for research on the wetlands restoration program. It will also assist in gaining data for the management and progression of the site.

The theme for the event is landscape connections and restoration, which aims to emphasise the connection through landscape and time due to the legacy of previous catchment disturbances.

Winton Wetlands restoration scientist Lance Lloyd has confirmed Dr Patrick Grillas will be the event’s key international speaker.

‘‘Dr Grillas is one of the world’s experts on wetlands. He hails from the Tour de Valat in France, where he and a team of scientists have been working on restoration of the Camargue system,’’ Mr Lloyd said.

The Shoot and Share photo competition has been launched to celebrate World Photography Day on August 19.

The competition, which will run until August 18, is open to all amateur photographers who are keen to capture and share the essence of Winton Wetlands.

Wetlands visitation manager Tanya McAlpine said there was always something to photograph at the site.

‘‘It is a constantly changing landscape and we love seeing it through different visitors’ eyes,’’ she said.

‘‘There really is so much to see and the colour and light is incredible, not to mention the array of wildlife in the area.

‘‘We often get people capturing and sharing amazing photos to our social media platforms. This is just a natural extension of the ongoing interaction we have with our visitors.’’

The photographer who captures the winning image will receive an Insta360 Nano and the image will become the feature front cover of the Winton Wetlands visitor experience guide.

Only photographs taken in the past 12 months are eligible.

The winner will be announced on Monday, August 21.
