Benalla Police have swapped their cars for push bikes, taking advantage of the spring weather to liaise with the community and enforce the law.
Patrols began this week and will continue throughout the spring and summer.
The bike patrol has already been effective in enforcing traffic rules, with drivers being spoken to for offences around stop signs, and not wearing seatbelts.
Senior Constable Mark Kennedy said it was a great way to interact with the community and patrol the CBD.
‘‘Using our bikes is a great way to access areas that police in vehicles would find difficult to patrol,’’ he said.
Benalla Police will be utilising bike patrols into the future, around the botanic gardens and all the island reserves to target anti-social behaviour as the weather warms.
