Benalla Saints’ B-grade side is headed for the grand final after a one-goal win over Echuca.
The hard-fought clash at Rochester saw the Saints emerge as the club’s only netball side left in contention for the flag.
The Saints fought back from seven goals down in the first quarter to just three shy with one quarter remaining.
Chantal Lindsay was unstoppable in defence, while Emily Martyn provided drive through the midcourt.
Chloe Hill held strong in defence all day, while Georgia Spencer, who came on in the last quarter, shot the match-winning goal to put the girls in front with less than a minute to go, with Benalla defeating Echuca 43-42.
Best players for the Saints were Chantal Lindsay, Emily Martyn and Chloe Hill.
The Saints’ grand final opponents will be decided this weekend when Echuca takes on Shepparton United at Deakin Reserve.
The Saints have a week’s rest before they travel to Deakin Reserve on September 24 for the grand final.
In the under-17s match, the young Saints came undone against a strong Echuca outfit.
Echuca defeated the Benalla side by eight goals at Euroa’s Memorial Oval after the Saints led by four at the end of the first quarter.
The Benalla girls came out strong in the first quarter, heading in to the first break with a small lead.
But Echuca re-grouped and came out firing, and Benalla slipped behind. Echuca’s lead increased in the third quarter.
The young side clawed its way back in to the match in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done, with the result a 42-50 loss.
