A powerful performance from Col Exton was all that was needed to overcome Rosellas in round two of the Benalla Table Tennis’ A-grade clash last week.
The crafty veteran was in top form, posting two singles victories in an outstanding display. Carol Perry overcame a slow start, producing some great table tennis to win a singles, before combining with Exton to snare the doubles for a solid 4-1 victory.
Plovers’ Gavan Crothers was in devastating form, winning both singles to lead the team to a spectacular 4-1 victory over Taipans in a high standard affair.He had strong support from Brian Perry, who played well to win a singles before combining with Crothers for a three set doubles victory.
Meanwhile, Wallabies were in great touch, with Cooper Irwin showing his class to account for both singles in a fine performance. He was well supported by Ashley Duns, who was back in form to win a singles before teaming with Irwin for a straight sets doubles victory.
Echidnas had a surprise 5-0 victory over Owls, with Jeff Austen and Michelle Feldtmann playing with purpose to win all their matches comfortably.
Numbats just held on to edge out Eagles 3-2 in a top performance. John Spencer was back to his best form, winning both singles in style.
He had good support from Jack McNulty who played extremely well to win the deciding singles in a pressure match.
Gliders were too strong for Mozzies, with Beth Grant and Coby Linke showing their experience to enjoy a solid 5-0 victory.
Redbacks played well to overcome Frogs for an emphatic 5-0 victory. Pauline Hooper and Sienna Irwin gave an awesome display to win all their matches in a stylish performance.
Koalas had to produce their best form to hold off a determined Magpies unit, prevailing for a tense 3-2 victory. Helen Sharp was the star of the match, playing brilliantly to win both singles in a fine display.
She then joined with the improving Sally Young to seal the match with a straight sets doubles victory.
A fired up Crickets overwhelmed Hawks, producing their best form to take a 5-0 victory in an entertaining match. James Young and Andrea Cathcart were too strong, winning all their matches in a great display.
