If you didn’t already have enough reason to attend Friday’s Gold Cup action — here are another two.
Benalla AFL product Jarrad Waite and former Essendon, Port Adelaide, West Coast Eagles and Collingwood player Scott Cummings will be trackside, snapping pictures and mixing it with the locals.
The Gold Cup is once again shaping up to be a day for Benalla to remember, so long as the weather holds out.
Benalla Racing Club chief executive officer Cameron Symes said it would be a weekend that would stay in the mind for a long time.
‘‘Being an AFL grand final long weekend, we thought it appropriate to have some AFL talent joining us on the day,’’ Mr Symes said.
‘‘Scott Cummings is an ex-player and entertainer from various TV shows; and Jarrad Waite, of Benalla and North Melbourne, is coming up for it, too.
‘‘They’re all very approachable guys and they’ll be happy to take photos and have a chat to people.’’
Joining the two AFL stars will be local radio hosts Jess and Tommy from Hit 96.9; they will be conducting their radio show from the party marquee on the day.
Mr Symes said it was looking like another fantastic day of racing, where there will be something for everyone on the day.
‘‘We’re not too stressed at the moment, all the marquees are up, and there are a few tickets left in a few marquees,’’ he said.
‘‘So it’s now about putting the finishing touches in and getting the place set up.
‘‘There will be plenty of activities for the kids out there, too. Like a bouncy castle and face painting.
‘‘We will also have a band out there playing until 7pm into the night.’’
Friday’s forecast, as of Tuesday, predicts a partly cloudy day with 17°C as the high and a 20 per cent chance of rain.
‘‘After all the dramas last year, it looks like it will be a great day,’’ Mr Symes said.
