Benalla Police are patrolling the area in a new road safety concept car — the Guardian 2.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG, which is on loan from Road Policing Command, was a major attraction at the Euroa Show and Shine during the weekend.
Local police were on hand to discuss the various safety features of the marked police vehicle, and the importance of having safety features.
The Mercedes-Benz boasts many safety features including tyre pressure monitoring, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot assist.
Senior Constable Mark Kennedy said the message police wanted to send to people was to prioritise safety over leather seats and shiny wheels.
‘‘We don’t expect everyone to go out and spend a fortune on the latest models, but to research within your budget,’’ Sen Const Kennedy said.
‘‘You would be surprised at how affordable new and used cars with a high-star safety rating can be.’’
The car will be patrolling the Benalla area until Friday, after which, it will be used by Wangaratta Police.
