The Benalla Bushrangers were mauled by the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Lakers at the Benalla Gardens on Saturday.
Batting first, the Bushies were rolled for just 51 and the visitors then piled on 8/322.
Vaughan Kirk and Nathan Abley equal top scored for the Bushies with 19, but there were five batsmen who failed to make a single run.
In the bowling, Conor Brodie took three wickets, while Dale Stratton and Wade King grabbed a couple of wickets each.
The A-grade side has the bye this weekend, and might decide to use the spare time for some extra practice.
The Bushies’ B-Grade team provided the highlight of the day’s cricket with a nail-biting draw against Rovers United Bruck at the Friendlies reserve.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat before the Bushies’ side, which combined youth and experience, put on a solid display in the field to bowl RUB out for 106 in the 34th over.
Trevor Saker led the charge with the ball, removing both opening RUB batsmen cheaply.
Saker finished with 3/9 from his eight overs and master of the mullet Brodie Woolley got the same number of scalps for 36 runs from his eight overs.
Deakyn Kohler and Oli Chivers picked up two wickets each and the sharp keeping skills of Gurpeet Singh resulted in a catch and stumping.
The B-Grade side’s run chase got off to a shaky start with Nick Jacobs run-out after for two.
Steve Siggers, Rhett Woolley and Richard Hubbard were patient and took the score to 52 before Siggers was out LBW for 13, Hubbard made 19.
Unfortunately the tail did not wag that much and when the last wicket fell in the 35th over, the scores were tied.
Saker finished not-out 10 and Brodie Woolley made eight.
This weekend the B-Grade side travels to Yarrawonga to take on Yarrawonga-Mulwala.
A-Reserve put up a good battle in their game, but went down to City Colts by 30 runs playing in Wangaratta.
Sent in to bat, the A-Reserve side was all out for 106 in the 35th over of their one-day game.
Dylan Barber top scored with 25 and captain Steve Pickering made 17.
City Colts only lost three wickets in the run chase to finish 3/149.
Pickering took two wickets and Lachlan Ellis took one.
This weekend the A-Reserve side takes on Rovers United Bruck at the Benalla Gardens.
The C-Grade team played its first game of the year on Saturday at Violet Town against Ovens Valley United.
Ovens Valley won the toss and chose to bat, but were all out for 133 in the 35th over.
Brent Wallace was the pick of the Bushies’ bowlers with 4/25 from his eight overs while Justin Wallace, Josh Ormand, Callum Sands and Anthony Lynch all grabbed a wicket each.
In reply, the Bushies were all out for 97.
Brent Wallace capped a great game, top scoring with 19 runs while Sean McDonald made 17 and Callum Sands put together 15 runs.
The C-Grade team will play Milawa at Tatong this weekend.
In the juniors, the Under-16s had a bye and the Under-14s made 89 runs on day one of their two-day game against Rovers United Bruck Green at the Gardens.
George Lithgow top-scored, retiring on 21 and Jack Fullager also retired, on 13.
Charles Moll (9) and Sam Heaney (8) batted well in the middle order.
With a good bowling attack, including Charlie DeWinne, Jasper DeFazio and Tom Hayes, the Under-14s stand a good chance next week.
The Under-12s lost a close game against the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Bulls, playing in Yarrawonga.
The Bulls batted first and the Bushies did a great job to keep the home side to 69 runs.
Kelly James and Brady Linke both took a wicket, while Lucas Hales grabbed a couple of catches behind the stumps.
The Bushies put up a great fight in reply, but were six runs short.
Lucas Hales top scored with 19 and Brady Linke made 10, Max Cullen chipped in with eight valuable runs. This Saturday, the Under-12s play at Arundel St in Benalla.
