The Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum is featuring a small inclusion of Prue Acton fashion designs in its current exhibition of 1970s styles.

It includes examples of elegance, colour, Australian flora and fauna favoured by Ms Acton as well as a corporate suit worn by former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Winsome McCaughy.

Prue Acton was born in Benalla and the museum has sought to collect her labelled garments into its collection.

Ms Acton’s designs were renowned throughout the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s when she decided to change course and concentrate on her love of fine art.
