Benalla Bushrangers’ A-reserve side snared its first win of the season against Rovers United Bruck during the weekend.

The side recorded a resounding win against Rovers playing the second day of a two-day game at the Benalla Gardens.

The Bushies got straight to business in the field and skittled the visitors for just 55 runs.

Rovers were under pressure as the Bushies made 153 last weekend and had the away side 1/5 at the start of play.

Simon Briggs did most of the damage with the ball and finished with 4/9 from nine overs including five maidens.

Adam Walsh removed both of Rovers’ opening batsmen and finished with 2/15 from nine overs, while Rob Saker took 2/14. Captain Steve Pickering also nabbed two wickets.

In the Bushies’ second innings, they racked up 187 runs. Pickering helped himself to 59 not out and Saker made 44. James Arendt made 42 and Lachie Ellis made 27.

A reserve plays Yarrawonga-Mulwala at the Benalla Gardens this Saturday and while A-Grade had the bye, A-grade will look for their first win of the season away against Delatite in Mansfield.

B-Grade lost a close game to Milawa at the Friendlies Reserve. The side completed their 36 overs with 6/136.

Richard Hubbard top scored with 45, while Rhett Woolley made 22 and James Davies chipped in with seven not out.

Milawa chased down the runs with a couple of overs to spare.

Steve McCallum was back to his best bowling with 3/17 and Ben Wilson, Deakyn Kohler, Luke Dunne and James Davies each took a wicket each.

B-Grade will be at the Friendlies again this Saturday, up against Delatite in a two-dayer.

The under-16s will have their work cut out for them, chasing 160 from Yarrawonga-Mulwala who lost five wickets in their 42 overs.

Runs will also be on the agenda for the under-14s in their two-day game against Rutherglen United playing at Arundel St.

The visitors finished with a respectable 157 as Jack Fullager was the best with the ball, taking 3/11, closely followed by Tom Hayes with 3/12.

The under-12s were defeated by a strong Yarrawonga-Mulwala side which scored 123 from 20 overs at Arundel St.

The Bushies battled well to lose three wickets for 53 runs from 20 overs.

Flynn Weeks took a couple of wickets in a fast bowling spell, and Brady Linke also took wickets.
