Federal funding is up for grabs for community groups in Benalla and across North East Victoria.
Federal Member for Indi Cathy McGowan is encouraging community groups and local councils in the region to apply for grants to deliver economic and social benefits to their communities.
The second round of the Building Better Regions Fund Community Stream is open for application with grants starting at $5000.
While the maximum amount is $10 million, projects under $20000 are not required to match funding.
‘‘This makes the opportunity ideal for communities that have many great ideas, but are under financial pressure,’’ Ms McGowan said.
‘‘I’m especially encouraging young people, who have great ideas about how to improve their local communities, to apply.
‘‘Indi communities are well placed to make the most of the funding opportunity, with a great track record of working with local government to get things done.’’
Non-profit organisations and local councils are eligible to apply, with applications closing on December19.
Under the previous round, funding was green-lit for several organisations in North East Victoria:
●Into Our Hands Community Foundation Wangaratta received $18000 to promote community philanthropy;
●Australian Women in Agriculture Wangaratta received $20000 for sessions to assist women with board and governance preparedness;
●Parklands Albury Wodonga received $20000 for a four-day horse riding trail pilot ride.
