Sir Ian Botham will join Dean Jones for a sportsman’s night at Euroa Cricket Club next month.

Not many boasting a knighthood have graced the streets of the region.

But Sir Ian Botham will join Dean Jones for a sportsman’s night at Euroa Cricket Club next month.

Jones was responsible for securing the legendary English all-rounder for an appearance and the pair are sure to share plenty of banter across the night.

Australian one-day international star Jones is the link to Euroa.

‘‘Dean Jones is a friend of one of our committee members, so they approached him to see whether he’d be interested and he said ‘yes and I’ll bring Ian Botham’, they do a lot of work together,’’ Euroa secretary Heather Crosbie said.

With 154 Tests and 280 one-day Internationals between the pair, Crosbie was still astonished the two would be speaking at Memorial Oval on February 13.

‘‘It’s just amazing, it’s something that we never imagined would happen in Euroa,’’ she said

About 180 people are expected to listen to Jones and Botham detail their starts as junior cricketers right up to the elite level and into their post-playing careers.

Botham and Jones are sure to share their reflections on the current Ashes series with both commentators vocal about each county’s performances across the summer.

The stirling pair of international stars join an ever-growing list of cricketing superstars that have journeyed to the region in recent times.

West Indies legend Brian Lara was a captivating speaker at Shepparton Harness Racing Club at the end of 2016 with another knight, Sir Viv Richards, making an appearance in Mooroopna in March last year.
