The Benalla Saints netball team is coming off a strong season last year, thanks to some Melbourne-based players who will not be returning to the team this year.
They finished the season in fourth position on the ladder, but were knocked out in the qualifying final. The loss of some key players has forced the team into a new direction, placing the emphasis on development of the younger players.
The exciting new appointment of former premiership player-coach Pip O’Donohue will certainly help with this development, with the new coach expecting a number of players to step up from B-grade.
‘‘We have a few players including Kelsei Paulpratt and Chloe Hill who are ready to take that next step into A-grade. It’s exciting to see their development already and they look like they will be key players.
‘‘We also have the exciting recruit of Grace Amarant who was an A-grade player last year and already looks like a great young role model for the team.’’
The Saints will be introducing an under-15 team for the first time, building the atmosphere at the club and generating more interest for the younger players coming through.
The team will be relying on young local players to step up and is still in the process of recruiting new players.
All new players are welcome to try out for the team and places in A-grade are still very much up for grabs.
