The champions of the Benalla P12 swimming carnival

Benalla P-12 College recently held its annual swimming carnival for Year 5 to 12 students at the Benalla YMCA Aquatic Centre.

School sports c-ordinator Michael Thomas was stoked with the carnival.

‘‘Students arrived excited and there was a real sense it was going to be an enjoyable day,’’ he said.

‘‘Students from Stirling House, who held the championship last year, were eager to repeat this year.

‘‘It was great to see so many students and staff dressed in colours to support their houses of Hotham, Buller, Buffalo and Stirling.’’

Many students represented their house by swimming in various races throughout the day. Other students got involved by playing cricket or Minute to Win It Games, with the student leadership group cheering on fellow competitors in the pool.

All events were well represented. From the first event to the house relays, students displayed the Benalla P-12 College school values of respect, responsibility, high expectation and integrity throughout the day.

The biggest race of the day was the staff versus senior students relay, which fielded a male and female team.

After a few tactical moves by the staff to edge in front, followed by a few moves of their own by the students, the students came out on top to win.

After all events were said and done, the points were added upBuller had a strong representation across all year levels and events to earn it the title of 2018 swimming house champion.

Stirling finished second, followed closely by Buffalo in third and Hotham in fourth.

Acting principal Paul Challis thanked the organisers and volunteers of the event.

‘‘Thank you to all the staff, especially teacher and sports co-ordinator Michael Thomas who organised the event, and other staff that assisted on the day,’’ he said.
