This week in 1993 - Improving Demons defeat Pigeons

Benalla Demons recorded their first win for the season on Sunday, in an impressive performance defeating Yarrawonga by six points in the Western Underwriters Ovens and Murray Football Pre Season cup.

The Demons, strengthened by the inclusion of coach Andrew Dale, looked a completely new side running with the ball at every opportunity.

With Michael Curtis playing well at full forward and Mick Sammut continually pumping the ball forward, the Demons were able to out-score the Pigeons in the second-half.

Another high point for the Demons was the performance of Bruce Cummings who has returned to the showgrounds after a stint with Goorambat.

Two Benalla residents were lucky to escape serious injury on Thursday when the Datsun Sunbird they were travelling in collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Church and Nunn Sts.

Colin Cottier and daughter Kellie, both of Benalla, were travelling south along Nunn St towards the traffic lights when a Northern Territory registered Ford Falcon allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with their Datsun Sunbird.

Police have charged a Northern Territory man for allegedly failing to give-way at the intersection.
