Benalla and District Tennis Association Grand Final
Most competitors arrived by 12.30 and started warm up straight away. With the weather threatening the teams started play at 1.00 and by the time the rain arrived at 1.30 some results had already been achieved, including a one sided set in Section 1. Section 2 was fairly even at this stage and in Section 3, the Benalla Gardens Gold stopped play with the number 1 + 2 ladies in command at 7 games to 1. The Garden’s men were not far behind with their score at 6 games to 2. The rain stopped play for about 1 hour and by 2.30 as there was still a glimmer of sunshine, some of the players and representatives from the Garden’s Tennis Club worked feverishly to sweep and dry the courts in an attempt to get play started again. As the Section 3 players started to play again, another shower came across and it then seemed to rain on and off for the next hour which made play impossible due to the risk of injury to all players. As a result of the rain causing two of the three sections to be cancelled the team that finished at the top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season became Premiers for 2018.
Section 1 Winners Avenel Red. Section 3 Winners Violet Town. In Section 2 play continued and eventually Lawn Blue prevailed.
