The Benalla Lions Club celebrated its 60-year charter anniversary with a black-tie event at Benalla Bowls Club last Saturday.
The special event was attended by 92 Lions and their guests, which consisted of former members of the Wangaratta Lions who sponsored the Benalla club in 1957.
Other guests included members from Moyhu, Katamatite, Mansfield, Rutherglen and Tungamah Lions Clubs.
State Member for Euroa Steph Ryan and Lions District Governor Mr Lee Walkington, who is a member of the Cohuna Lions Club, also attended.
Emcee for the night was Benalla Lion Bruce Walker, who entertained guests and kept the event running smoothly.
Benalla Lions Club president Peter Poels said a special 60th anniversary cake was prepared for the occasion by club member Margaret Elliott.
‘‘The cake was decorated by Margaret’s daughter-in-law Cathy, and we asked Barbara Smith, widow of former member Jim to cut the cake,’’ Mr Poels said.
‘‘Lion Ray Dunstan, who has been a member for Wangaratta Lions Club for 45 years, was also asked to cut s few slices.’’
Club treasurer Lester Watt, who unfortunately could not attend, created a list of what had happened since 1958.
It was well received by the audience as it was read out by Bruce Walker.
As part of celebrations a clip was played, which highlighted the different activities the club has run during the past 60 years.
Entertainment on the night was provided by local band 2 Easy.
The Lions Club of Benalla asked to say a big thank you to everyone who attended, and who has supported the club since 1958.
