With the Winton V8 Supercar Series right around the corner, the Red Bull Holden racing team is gearing up to give their all out on the track.
Holden V8 driver Shane Van Gisbergen said he’s looking forward to putting up another good performance, coming off the back of a win at Winton last year.
“We’ve had a pretty good prep week and everything’s going well, we were good here last year and I think we won one of the days so anything can happen,” he said.
“We’ll just take it as it comes, a few things have gone wrong but we’ve still got good speed and are in second and third place in the points at the moment so it’s going alright.”
Van Gisbergen said it’s the atmosphere at Winton that keeps him coming back.
“It’s always a nice event here so I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“In our series we don’t really visit the rural smaller tracks as much anymore so it’s pretty awesome.
“I spent last weekend at home in New Zealand so I’m used to the cold weather already.”
Van Gisbergen and fellow Holden team mate Jamie Whincup have been spending time rubbing shoulders with locals in the lead up to the race.
The pair had a question, answer and signing at Wangaratta Holden before heading to an event at Winton to meet more local fans and supporters.
Whincup said that despite some knock backs in recent races, they’re ready to put that behind them and come out firing.
“We’re ready to go, we’ve had a tough run the last few rounds so we’re looking to bounce back here this weekend,” he said.
“Winton provides good balance to our championship; we go to some hot races and some big long tracks but Winton’s very much back to grass roots.”
“A lot of people camp for the weekend and enjoy motorsport for what it is; just to come and enjoy the weekend watching some cars go round and run into each other.”
The Winton V8 Supercar Series will be running from May 18 to 20 at the Winton Motor Raceway.
