Benalla Saints Youth Girls Keeley Skepper, Madison Gray, Tayissa Gray and Mani Foubister representing the Goulburn Valley U16 Interleague team.

Four of the Benalla Saints Girls Youth League players represented the Goulburn Valley in the Interleague Under-16 game against Bendigo. The girls selected were Keeley Skepper as captain, Madison Gray, Tayissa Gray and Mani Foubister.

The Goulburn Valley girls played an excellent brand of football nullifying many of the Bendigo players into making errors and fumbling the ball.

Tayissa Gray, Madison Gray and Keeley Skepper were involved in the goal kicking. Overall the Goulburn Valley girls showed they were better ball handlers as they used the ball to great effect.

The Benalla girls can walk away proud of themselves as their ability was put on show.

Final scores were Goulburn Valley 9 goals 11 behinds to Bendigo 1 goal 1 behind.

On the weekend the girls played Mooroopna at Mooroopna, where they were beaten by nine points in a thrilling game. The Saints were in front until the final minutes.

Mooroopna started off kicking the first two goals while the Benalla girls took a little time to get started. When they got a feel for the ball they were able to hit the lead and with perhaps straighter kicking may have increased that lead.

Some of the hit outs and running into the forward line was great to see, making it easier to score. At half-time the score was Mooroopna five goals one point to Benalla three goals four points. The girls were asked to handball and with great effort led by three points at the next break.

The Saints girls were noticeably smaller and were unable to hold the older girls. Mooroopna kicked two goals in the last couple of minutes to win by nine points. Final scores were Mooroopna 10 goals 3 points to Benalla Saints 8 goals 6 points.

A great effort was shown by the girls.

Goal kickers: Keeley Skepper 3, Tayissa Gray 2 Madison Cronin 2, and Kiari Ward 1.

Next week the Saints girls play Finley on Sunday, June 17 at the showgrounds at 12.30pm. Finley is second on the ladder and will test the Saints.
