AusNet Services has been flying the skies above Benalla, and the north east, utilising new LiDAR technology to map its electricity distribution network in recent weeks.

The technology, which uses laser light to measure distances, is being used to create a 3D model of the network, which is expected to improve safety by better determining when vegetation is growing too close to powerlines.
AusNet Services’ branded mapping vehicle has been driving along streets to capture images of powerlines, while a team has also been flying along the powerlines to capture the infrastructure from the air.
While Benalla, Violet Town and Swanpool were mapped last week, the Glenrowan community can expect to see the vehicle this week.
