February 13, 2018

Melbourne surgeon Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann died after allegedly being punched outside a hospital.

A Melbourne surgeon who died following a single punch had earlier "chest bumped" the man accused of attacking him, a court has been told.

Joseph Esmaili, 23, is facing a pre-trial committal hearing, charged with the manslaughter of cardiothoracic surgeon Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann at the Box Hill Hospital on May 30.

Esmaili's friend Corey Rogers told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday he saw the surgeon "chest bump" Esmaili in an intimidating way before the alleged assault.
