The Wanderers were shocked early in the Griffith & District Football Association reserve grade round eight clash, with the home side jumping out to a 2-0 lead.
Deni managed to work their way back into the contest however, with two late goals in the first half seeing the scores level at 2-all at the break.
YFC were left one man down late in the first half when Luke Vardanega received his second yellow card, resulting in a red card and expulsion from the game.
The Wanderers took full advantage of having the extra man in the second half, finding the back of the net on three occasions while conceding one goal on their way to their fifth win of the season.
Playing-coach Josh Perizzolo added three goals to his season tally, leading the competition with eight goals to his name.
Aaron Piercy, who is equal second in the league goalscoring with fellow Wanderer Ben Cooper on six goals for the season, found the back of the net once, with Brad Scroop also hitting the scoreboard with one of his own.
Perizzolo said that while the win was great, the slow starts are becoming a problem for his side.
‘‘We were down 2-0 early again, which obviously isn’t ideal,’’ he said.
‘‘YFC scored two cheap goals early. They had a really quick striker (Zane Huxley) who got through and caught us off guard a bit.
‘‘To our credit we managed to bring the game back on level terms before the end of the half.
‘‘They (YFC) got a bit fiery when things didn’t go their way, which led to a few yellow cards for both sides, but I’d say they ended up self-destructing due to this.’’
Although he kicked three goals, Perizzolo said it was hard to single out any players as stand-outs.
‘‘Much like previous weeks, there were no stand-outs with everyone doing their part,’’ he said.
‘‘It was just another solid team effort.
‘‘We were missing Mark Rourke, Ben Cooper and Bruce Maunganidze, so there were a lot of our players who aren’t in our usual starting line-up that played well.
‘‘We’re five points clear on top of the ladder now, but we need to make sure we keep getting results as each game matters.’’
The Wanderers will be the only local sporting team playing this weekend when they host Yoogali Soccer Club in a top of the table clash at Rotary Park on Sunday.
This match was originally scheduled for round one of the Wanderers’ season, but was postponed because YSC did not have enough registered players.
The last time these sides met was in round seven, with the game ending in a draw.
With names like Rourke, Cooper and Maunganidze set to return, Perizzolo said his side is expected to be at full strength for the first time this season.
‘‘We’ve got our fingers crossed that Chook (Rourke) will be right to go,’’ he said.
‘‘To have all these players back does make it hard with selection though, as we can only name a 16 man squad on the teamsheet.
‘‘We’ve had it lucky with selection in the sense that we’ve had a few missing each game, so everyone has had a decent run, but we have some tough decisions to make now.
‘‘YSC have been our toughest opponent so far this season. We’re yet to give up any premiership points at home this year though and we intend to keep it that way.’’
The match at Rotary Park will kick-off at 1pm on Sunday.
