Knowing where to obtain information about the law can be an overwhelming experience so Law Week aims at helping people know more about the law, the legal system and how to get answers to common legal problems.
Courts, legal agencies, solicitors, barristers, police and of course public libraries in NSW are all encouraged to get involved in the annual week as a wonderful opportunity to promote the Find Legal Answers resources and service to local communities.
‘Find legal answers’ is an initiative run by the State Library of New South Wales for free legal information for NSW communities, which can assist an individual’s ability to understand the law.
More information about ‘Find legal answers’ can be found at https://legalanswers.sl.nsw.gov.au/
Law Week is led by the Law Society of NSW in partnership with NSW agencies including the NSW Department of Justice, the NSW Bar Association, Legal Aid NSW, the NSW Police Force, the Department of Education and Communities and the Legal Information Access Centre.
In addition to private law firms based in the Southern Riverina, local residents also have access to the Hume Riverina Community Legal Centre.
Its staff visit Deniliquin and Finley on a regular basis, using rooms at Intereach.
The NSW Government recently announced an increase in funding of $15.6 million for community legal centres across NSW, including more than $550,000 for the Hume Riverina Community Legal Service over the next three years.
