Benalla Rural City Council presented 40 grants worth $75841 to 38 community groups and event organisers at the Sir Edward ‘‘Weary’’ Dunlop Learning Centre on Thursday, June 6.

The council funded $64141 under the Community Grants Program and $11700 for major events.
Thirty-Two not-for-profit community-based organisations received funding of up to $2500 under the Community Grants Program for projects and activities that enable participation in social, cultural and economic life in Benalla Rural City.
Eight event organisers received funding of up to $1500 under the Major Event Funding program for events that provide measurable economic benefit and enhance the image and liveability of Benalla Rural City.

Mayor Scott Upston said the Community Support Program demonstrated council’s backing for community-based projects and events.
‘‘These projects and events are part of our healthy, vibrant and sustainable community,’’ Cr Upston said.
