This might not come as a shock to the public.
Even former principal Paul Challis predicted the damage when the campus closed, telling The Ensign that the Department of Education needed to do something with the site quickly before that could happen.
However, seven months down the road, it is still sitting empty.
The site is owned by the Department of Education, which was approached for comment. It released this statement:
‘‘It is disappointing that vandalism and other forms of anti-social behaviour are occurring at the former campus,’’ the statement read.
‘‘The department will review security measures in light of recent damage and will continue to work with police and the community to ensure the former school site is maintained appropriately.
‘‘The Victorian School Building Authority will ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out at the Barkly St Campus.
‘‘The department is currently investigating whether the Barkly St campus site needs to be retained for future education use.’’
In the meantime community members are encouraged to report incidents of vandalism at the site to police.
