The under-16 Goulburn Valley Suns enjoyed a massive rout of rival Murray United on Saturday.
The Suns dominated the National Premier League east division contest, sliding four goals past United’s keeper in the first half and a massive eight after the break for a 12-1 win.
Brandon Giaccherini was the main beneficiary of the team’s great work across the pitch, netting seven goals of his own in the dominant victory.
Garang Kuol (three goals), Luke Mitchell and Teng Kuol also appeared on the scoresheet during the romp, which gives the Suns four wins and 14 points from their first eight games.
●The under-18 match between the regional rivals went right down to the wire, with the Suns dragging themselves back from a three-goal deficit to equalise 4-all in the 88th minute.
Garang Kuol pulled double-duty — and was only outworked by James Nieuwenhuizen who punched in a triple shift in goal across three age groups — and added two more goals to his tally for the day in the 51st and 59th minutes to bring his side back into the contest.
Joel Carey also snagged a brace (64, 88) in the draw.
●In the under-15 fixture the Suns almost managed to claim a point after going 2-0 down themselves, but fell short in a 4-3 defeat.
Brodie Wooster sent one into the back of the net in the 18th minute to bring the margin back to a solitary strike, but United struck first in the second half to restore its two-goal advantage.
Deakin Jinnette (50) and Reece Reedy (58) also scored in the defeat, but the home side was always able to stay one step ahead of the Suns.
●The under-14 Suns had a tough day on the pitch against United, going down 10-0.
After shipping seven goals in the first half though the Suns were able to produce more fortitude in defence in the second stanza.
