Benalla’s young basketball superstars Jesse Liddington and Zach Schluter are set to showcase their skills in Echuca this month.
Jesse, 10, and Zach, 11, have been selected to represent Country Victoria at the BVC Jamboree, after wowing selectors at the under-12 skills day.
The boys said they were excited when they found out they had been selected and looked forward to adding to their skills.
‘‘I felt really happy when I found out about a week after the skills day,’’ Zach said.
‘‘I just love the game and playing it with my friends,’’ Jesse said.
The two Benalla under-14s players will also be joined in Echuca by Benalla coach Shane Riley, who will be in his third year as head coach for Jamboree.
‘‘It was very good to see some Benalla boys picked,’’ Shane said.
‘‘They’re quite lucky to be picked as there’s only a select few that go through, I think it was 11 this year out of about 30.
‘‘You’re doing quite well if you get picked.
‘‘I think there’s around 240 kids, boys and girls, as well coaches and referees for the four days.’’
The event aims to match country athletes from around Victoria against each other.
The 2018 BVC Jamboree will run from September 22 to 25.
