Kerang got the jump on Benalla, racing to a 25-point lead by half-time, before inflicting further damage by kicking another five goals in the second half, though in the last term, the Saints got themselves on the board with two minor scores.
And in an undermanned squad, the Saints were further boosted with five players running out for their first games with the club this season.
The players included Sam Spencer, Jessica Ritchie, Stacey Emms, Tegan North and Georgie York.
With three rounds to go, the Saints sit in sixth place on the ladder, a win outside the top four.
They will return to Benalla on Sunday, July 21 in the hope of overcoming top four side Nathalia at Friendlies Oval, in a final charge up the ladder.
Final score: Benalla Saints 0.2 (2) def by Kerang 8.12 (60)
