Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW) has removed the blue-green algae warning for Lake Eildon following a significant decline in algae levels.
G-MW will continue to undertake water quality monitoring.
The warning will be reissued if blue-green algae reach levels deemed unsafe by national health guidelines.
G-MW issued the warning for Lake Eildon in December, which was in place for 47 days.
Blue-green algae occur naturally in water bodies but contain toxins harmful to humans and animals.
Contact with it may result in skin irritations, discomfort in the eyes, ears and nose, or if swallowed, could lead to feelings of nausea or vomiting.
Water supplied by G-MW is unsuitable for human consumption without being properly treated first.
People looking to visit one of G-MW’s lakes, dams or reservoirs over the long weekend should check for blue-green algae warnings beforehand.
