Musical lovers will have the chance to hear some of their favourite big numbers when the Deni Theatre Company hosts its showcase event ‘Bad Apples’.
The event is expected to be held in September, with a date still to be confirmed, and will feature hits from musicals such as Matilda, Wicked, Annie and much more performed by company members.
Deni Theatre Company director Sam Willis said the showcase will be a one-off, two hour show.
‘‘It’s all about showcasing the kids,’’ he said.
‘‘They all put in so much time for our productions and this showcase is a glimpse of some of the shows they would like to do in the future.
‘‘We had a few options of musical numbers and the kids voted on what they wanted to do, with the most popular choices being chosen for the ‘Bad Apples’ event.
‘‘While we’re not going to as much effort with sets and costumes as we would for a big production, the songs and costumes will make the musicals and characters easily identifiable for the crowd.’’
The budding stage performers have been rehearsing for the showcase over a number of weeks, including at home during the school holiday break.
‘‘We have the script written and have had about two months of rehearsals so far,’’ Mr Willis said.
‘‘With school holidays we haven’t been able to officially rehearse the past couple of weeks, but we’ll return to the stage tomorrow for a full day rehearsal.
‘‘We’d like to give a big thank you to the Deniliquin Rotary Club for providing lunch for us during our full day rehearsals.’’
Mr Willis added that an entry price is still to be determined for the show.
The showcase will be a teaser to what the Deni Theatre Company intends to present next year at its second annual production.
The production, which still can’t be announced until licensing is secured, will be held on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15.
Tickets for the 2020 production are already available. Usually priced at $30 for an adult and $15 for a child, the special early-bird ‘mystery tickets’ are currently discounted by $5.
