Donations closed on February 11, less than two weeks after the February 2 event which attracted 300 people.
Deniliquin Rotary partnered with the Deniliquin Golf Club, South West Music and local artists to put on the concert, with performances also from the Deniliquin Bush Poets.
Rotarian David McPherson said the event, and the fundraising result, was an ‘‘outstanding success’’.
“The amount raised was way beyond expectations,” he said.
“Chris Bodey, who initiated the event, thought we could get $3000 or $4000, even $5000 if we were lucky, so this is an amazing effort.”
Mr McPherson said it was just another example of the way the Deniliquin district community rallies in times of need.
“The Deniliquin community is incredibly generous and in all sorts of ways,” he said.
“Every time there is a fundraiser or event, they are always there to support and help.
“And not only the local community but several wider and international communities which is what Rotary is all about.”
The fundraising total has already been transferred to the Rotary District 9790 Bushfire Appeal account, which is the local Rotary Club’s district and will cover the north-east Victoria bushfire affected areas.
“This money is being used for the rebuilding of fences so farmers can contain their stock,” he said.
“Some farmers have also lost their water tanks so some of the money will be used to contribute towards purchasing new tanks.
“We have also sourced shipping containers for farmers to store their machinery after a lot of their sheds were lost.
“This money will also be used for water filtration as a lot of water sources are tainted or contaminated from the ash and smoke.”
Additionally, it has provided back to school packs for students and teachers in some of the smaller communities.
“I know everyone who attended the music extravaganza enjoyed it, the weather was perfect and overall a great day.
“So thanks again, we have been blown away. This money will do a lot for other communities in need,” Mr McPherson said.
