Deniliquin Cup fast approaching

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

Local racegoers are already planning for the Deniliquin Cup meeting on Caulfield Cup day.

The popular event on Saturday, October 19, is only five weeks away.

Marquee packages are keenly sought and details can be obtained by contacting Country Wedding and Event Hire in Deniliquin on 5881 1944.

As usual there will be TAB facilities, bookmaker, food stalls, bar, fashions on the field and entertainment for the children.

Deniliquin Racing Club works hard to retain two race meetings each year and deserves strong public support.

The Group 2 weight for aga Feehan Stakes (1600m) won by Homesman will prove a strong form race.

Homesman was dominant at his first start since finishing second to Best Solution in last year’s Caulfield Cup.

Saturday’s win earned the six year-old a place in the Cox Plate field.

There should be success in coming weeks for third placed Best Of Days, Surprise Baby (fourth), The Chosen One (fifth) and Sikandarabad (sixth).

Surprise Baby, trained by Paul Preusker at Horsham, looms as Australia’s main hope of repelling the overseas invaders in the Melbourne Cup.

District racing tomorrow is at Echuca while major races at Flemington and Rosehill feature many spring contenders.

Mystic Journey and Scales Of Justice clash in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes providing a guide to their Cox Plate prospects.

Mystic Journey is the ruling Cox Plate favourite but at this stage two internationals, Lys Gracieu and Danceteria, are preferred.

Follow - The Chosen One: Impressive winning Group 3 races over 2000m in New Zealand and Sydney in the autumn; raced wide when first-up fifth at Moonee Valley.

Coming winners: Funstar, winner at her first two starts, was second at Randwick after 11 week break.

Come Play With Me won four straight in Perth before second at Rosehill.

Exceedance signalled more success with Rosehill win.
