Over the course of one week, I have worked with such welcoming and hardworking people. Being able to work alongside them has helped inspire me, my creativity and also to continue to strive for my passions.
The first day came around and I was lucky enough to do a range of tasks. I was so excited to go out to jobs and work with the journalists and photographer as it was something I have never done before, yet I learnt so much from it.
Seeing how interviews are conducted, the photography setup and even how the videos are made was extremely interesting to me. Each time I was able to give it a go, whether it was video or writing down details as part of an interview helped broaden my skills and confidence.
Over the next few days I continued going out to jobs, observing each interview and typing up media releases. Typing up the media releases was such a fun task for me to do, even though I was still learning. Luckily for me, I was able to get amazing guidance from some of the journalists there.
Even though I loved going out to the jobs, I think my favourite task was typing up the media releases. I was given a few each day and just by doing the media releases it helped me understand the Riverine Herald’s format, how they engage their readers and all you learn about from reading them.
My last day of work experience was July 19. It was such an enjoyable experience, and I wish I had stayed there for much longer as it felt like the week went so quickly.
I would like to thank Charmayne, Lachie, Alex, Ivy, Sophie, Cath, Andrew and the rest of the team for being extremely welcoming during my work experience week. Being able to do work experience at the Riverine Herald really helped me understand more of my interest.
If anyone else has an interest in journalism and might want to make it into a career, I would definitely recommend the Riverine Herald for work experience.
