Heathcote is drinking ale and eating pizza for the bushfires

If you are good at drinking and being merry, Heathcote Inn needs you to help finish off its donated kegs and wine bottles — for a good cause of course.

All profits made from the sale of the donated alcohol is going towards the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Launched with a big event two weekends ago, the Heathcote Inn is still selling bushfire booze and collecting donations until the end of January.

Heathcote Inn’s two managers, Samantha Mastropavlos and Andrew Waterhause, both have close connections to the current bushfires.

Sam’s mother is a CFA volunteer and has family in Gippsland while Andrew used to work on Kangaroo Island.

“We wanted to do our part and we saw Gage Roads Brewery Co were donating kegs to raise money, so we spoke to our local brewer and a few local wineries and they donated some wine and beers,” Sam said.

At the Sunday launch event for the donation campaign the restaurant’s pizzas were also contributing a slice to the fire funds — 50 per cent of the nights pizza profit was donated.

“Sunday was really good, we had 60 to 70 people come that day,” Sam said.

“Even during dinner we will tell people we’ve got these drinks and 90 per cent of diners will buy the beers and wine.”

If all donated alcohol is consumed before February 1 the inn will have raised about $4,000.
