An ex-Australian Army 1940 Chevrolet with a rich film history arrived in Swanpool, coming all the way from Yea with owner Tony Coppo.
The only vehicle of its type in Australia, the Chevrolet photographic units went out with Australian troops during World WarII and filmed for the Movietone News bulletins, as well as screening films for troops.
The vehicle has remained in its original condition, having been housed in a shed on a farm in NSW since the end of World WarII.
Cinema volunteers said they were delighted to see the unusual vehicle arrive and invited owner Mr Coppo to park the car next to the cinema entrance for patrons to enjoy.
Cinema event organiser Ian Herbert said he was surprised to see the Chevrolet arrive.
‘‘This vehicle has so much film history and in speaking to the owner, he plans to do more restorations and mount an original camera on the roof.’’ Mr Herbert said.
He said the Australian film Newsfront featured vehicles like the Chevrolet filming around post-war Australia, providing an understanding of the vehicle’s significance.
New Year’s Eve crowds also enjoyed two movies at the Swanpool Community Cinema to bring in 2019.
