Cooinda: A great place to live

By Simon Ruppert

Cooinda Aged Care has been rated as a great place to live - that's according to a recent survey of residents and their families.

Cooinda’s residents who were able to participate, and some with the assistance of volunteers, responded to the survey giving Cooinda an accurate account of resident experience.

Of the 94 per cent of residents in the facilities care surveyed, this year’s results included:

● 97 per cent stating that "staff are respectful of my lifestyle choices.”; and

● 94 per cent stating that “staff are genuinely kind, supportive and caring, that the dining area has a nice atmosphere, and that they are happy with the quantity and quality of meals served.

When asked about the thing residents like most about Cooinda the responses were also good.

“Cooinda has a family feeling, helping each other and being listened to by staff,” one resident said.

“(It's) friendly and (you have your) own privacy at all times,” said another.

“It's home. I feel safe and very well cared for. (I have a) nice big bed, I can fit everything in my room, I like that my room it’s so big,” said a third resident.

Family members of our residents also believe Cooinda is a great place for their loved ones.

Of the 90 per cent of family members surveyed, 95 per cent said staff treat their relative with dignity and respect; and that staff support their relatives’ overall wellbeing.

Cooinda chief executive officer Alex McKenna said he was happy with the feedback.

“We are delighted with yet another great survey result,” Mr McKenna said.

“We continue to seek feedback through surveys and our ‘Compliments and Suggestions forms’ to ensure we are meeting the needs of our residents and their families.

“These results are very pleasing, especially as we have worked hard to ensure people in our care are comfortable moving into our recently opened high-care Ledger Wing and new memory support accommodation.

“We understand changes and room moves for residents can be a stressful time for (them) and their family members, which is why this feedback important.”

Cooinda has undertaken QPS Benchmarking surveys annually for 11 years.

The surveys gather feedback from residents and their families on the services they provide and asks them to rate how satisfied they are with the services Cooinda delivers.

The results from the surveys are used to identify areas where suggested improvements can be made.

QPS Benchmarking ranks Cooinda’s survey results against more than 100 aged-care facilities across Australia and New Zealand.
