The resort opened a week early on Saturday, June 4 due to strong early snowfalls and more terrain was open last weekend as crowds flocked to the slopes.
“It’s the most snow we’ve ever recorded for a June long weekend,” Buller Ski Lifts general manager Noel Landry said.
“Everyone is amazed to be skiing and boarding on the amount of cover we usually wait until mid-season to experience.
“The team here are building some serious muscles from all the shovelling and de-icing going on around the resort in order to get lifts open and clear entry ways and paths.”
The average snow-depth on the ski runs is sitting between 78cm and 85cm, after snow fell steadily across the weekend.
These included welcoming back Mt Buller local and Olympic gold medallist Jakara Anthony to her old stomping ground where she reminisced with family and friends about getting her start on the slopes.
There were family activities in the village, meet-and-greets with Winter Olympians and a DJ set by Australian duo Client Liaison.
Bumper snowfalls have seen record levels of bookings for lift passes, accommodation and lessons, and snow-lovers are advised to plan ahead, book in snow stays now and explore midweek visits when there is more capacity.
The strong early snowfall and established snow base is good news for skiers and boarders looking forward to spring sliding all the way through to early October.
