A fire that is believed to have started from a lightning strike two days earlier kept firefighters busy on Tuesday, December 21.
The CFA was notified of a crop fire near O’Dwyers Rd in Boosey at 11.37pm.
A Cobram CFA member said the fire is thought to have started from a lightning strike that hit a tree two days earlier, before the fire started and spread to nearby crops later on.
More than five vehicles fought the fire, as well as a water bombing aircraft, with the fire declared under control at 12.14pm.
Only a small area of crop was burnt.
The Cobram CFA member said given the grass and trees were drying out again after the recent wet weather, fires were again becoming a risk.
They are reminding farmers to ensure their machinery is clean and well maintained and that their farms were tidy to reduce the risk of fire.
If you see smoke or other signs of a fire, always phone 000.
