During the past three years, the Mathoura Public School P&C has been gifted with more than $10,000 from the local Bendigo Bank via their community sponsorship program.
With these funds, the school installed a native wellbeing garden in front of the school library.
Mathoura Public School then continued on with the beautification focus, commissioning an artist to create two beautiful murals reflecting local fauna.
The Community Bank Tongala and Mathoura fully funded one of the two new murals.
The two new murals, one of an azure kingfisher and the other of two long neck turtles, have added an extra splash of colour throughout the school, as well as the community.
There have been many people stopping by outside the grounds to admire these beautiful pieces of artwork.
The school selected to have long neck turtles painted as a mural to represent the totem of the Yorta Yorta people, and the words, BADJA BAYADERRA, were included which is Yorta Yorta for long neck turtle.
This piece of artwork was created as part of the school's Reconciliation Week Celebrations.
The students and staff loved watching the wall being transformed throughout the day.
On Friday, June 10, Community Bank Tongala and Mathoura chairman John Bentley attended a special assembly that took place at the school, where he officially opened the garden and the Badja Bayaderra mural with the school community present.
Chanze Egan and Chad Ward had the honour of cutting the ribbon with Mr Bentley during the ceremony, officially opening these two completed projects.
When you are next passing through Mathoura, make sure you drive past the school to join in admiring these brilliant artworks created by spray paint artist, NITSUA.
