Eleven new NBN wireless towers will be built across the Moama, Tocumwal, Finley, Barooga and Koondrook-Barham areas.
These 11 towers are part of 52 towers promised to the entire Farrer electorate in southern NSW.
They will dramatically improve coverage to more than 14,000 homes and businesses on the NBN Fixed Wireless network.
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley said the network upgrade would also benefit the Sky Muster network, enabling the average monthly data allowance to increase to 55 gigabytes in the short term and up to 90 gigabytes once the towers are complete.
“Under this plan, in most cases you will see double the coverage range for each tower, putting more people on the network, plus higher speeds across the day of up to 100 and 50 megabytes per second during the network’s busier night-time hours,” Ms Ley said.
The upgrade is being funded by the $750 million invested in the Federal Budget into NBN Co to help expand the fixed wireless network, after the Regional Telecommunications Review reported on the poor state of internet access in the bush.
According to NBN Co, the entire investment will see 120,000 previously satellite-only premises offered access to the fixed wireless network — delivering an increase in speeds and service.
