Renegades thump Hurricanes in WBBL

By AAP Newswire

The Melbourne Renegades have walloped Hobart by eight wickets to sweep their St Kilda weekend WBBL double-header.

After prevailing on Saturday in a last-ball thriller, the Renegades did it with far more ease on Sunday at CitiPower Centre, cruising past the Hurricanes modest 8-108 with 26 deliveries to spare.

Marquee English pair Danni Wyatt (45 not out) and Tammy Beaumont (37) masterminded a cakewalk of a run chase, combining effortlessly for 72 runs for the second wicket.

Belinda Vakarewa (2-16) was the only Hobart bowler to impress, snaring a brilliant return chance off Sophie Molineux early and dismissing the dangerous Beaumont, albeit after the result was already in the bag.

The big win was set up by the Renegades' bowlers who, led by Molly Strano (3-19), Maitlan Brown (2-19) and Molineux (2-24), applied the screws by breaking through regularly.

Strano reduced the visitors to 2-8 in the second over and, despite some fight shown by England captain Heather Knight (20), the 'Canes never really recovered as their winless stretch extended to six matches.
