WITH social distancing and isolation rules in place and potentially more to come, supermarkets are turning to delivery and pick-up services.

Major’s Supa IGA is now offering delivery and back-door pick-up, with people able to order through email (preferably) or on the phone.
“We’re getting swamped at the moment so it’s to reduce the number of people in store and also to look after the vulnerable and also elderly people,” Brad Major said.
“We’ve been getting calls of people with concerns over their immune systems that hadn’t been able to shop.”
The store will be running the delivery itself, with a $5 fee for each order.
Workers are also still catching up from the massive demand put on all supermarkets statewide last week as people rushed to stock up on food and toilet paper.
“Our stock levels seem to be better than others from what I’ve heard but we’re having troubles; only three quarters of our load is coming in and we’re struggling to get the main things like toilet rolls, tissue, hand sanitiser and soap, pasta and flour,” he said.
“The deliveries are one to two days late at the moment, so hopefully they’ll catch up.”
Despite some low levels, he said fruit and vegetables, meat, dairy and liquor was on track.

Giddings Co Foodworks in Lockington is also offering delivery to its customers through its online store and phone orders.
Like Major's IGA, it hopes to reduce the exposure to the virus for staff and customers in store and has already found online sales have increased in the past week.
