It was late last month when Webster got the call-up for the team, and she said the local community support since her selection had been “incredible.”
“Just with the community coming together — with the sausage sizzle, I had a few businesses come out and donate money, and just say good luck,” she said.
Webster also received online donations from people outside of Benalla.
Alongside her own fundraising efforts, the Benalla Young Sportsperson Trust has also donated $1000 to support Webster’s achievement in making the squad, which was supported by trustee Bill Sykes, and Barbara Bond and Judy Jones of the Farmers Arms Hotel who earlier this year donated $2500 to the trust.
With the competition getting closer by the day, Webster said she was excited for the week-long event, after the squad recently completed match simulations as part of its preparations.
“We started off a bit slow, not knowing each other,” Webster said.
“But other than that, it was good, it’s the best you can ask for.
“You just learn as you go.”
