With Shane and Julie Richardson moving up to the under-12s program after two years in the position, the league is looking for new people to step into the role.
BDJDL president Darren Skelton said it did not just need to be one person though - it could be a team of people.
“Ideally we’ll have about six people running Auskick who can share the workload,” Skelton said.
“Coordinators have accountability in running the program, but they’ll have support from our committee and the AFL to run the program.
“This is a great program for the Benalla community. It’s a lot of fun.
“There are great rewards if you get involved.”
Skelton said it would be “incredibly disappointing” if the league, which has operated since the 1950s, could not get anyone to put their hand up for the role.
“We’ve always had great community support so this year should be no different,” he said.
“We have more than 200 kids in Auskick, but we can’t operate without coordinators. This is the situation we find ourselves in.
“We’ll have an Auskick Centre community meeting in the coming weeks where we’ll talk to the coaches and families about what is involved in running the centre.”
With volunteer participation trending downwards in recent years, Skelton encouraged people to get involved "as to give the best experience to our kids".
“It is critical to have volunteers who can give back a little, particularly if you were involved in sports as a kid,” Skelton said.
“When I played sport, someone needed to step up. You may not remember who, but someone was doing that job.
“If you’ve played sport in the past, you’re almost due to give back to make sure your kids get that assistance to develop.”
After locking down the finer details of its junior program last week, the search for new coordinators is the biggest task ahead of the BDJFL committee in the next two months.
“This is the final piece of the puzzle,” Skelton said.
“We’ve been lucky to have Mick Livingston and Shane and Julie undertake the role in past years.
“We want to grow this program – we have 200 kids aged between five and 10 who enjoy footy.
“It would be disappointing if we couldn’t find coordinators.”
