One of the region’s biggest motorsport events is the latest casualty of the ongoing coronavirus crisis, with Historic Winton cancelling its 2020 event.
The much-loved exhibition was scheduled to be held on the weekend of May 29-31 but will now not return until May 28-30, 2021.
Alongside the main event, the Benalla Historic Vehicle Tour, set for May 29, has also been canceled.
Historic Winton organiser and President of the Austin 7 Club, Len Kerwood, said it was with “heartfelt disappointment” that Historic Winton had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 coronavirus control.
“The Austin 7 Club is taking this action, as all other major event organisers are doing, since we wish to do our bit for the health and wellbeing of all of our stakeholders,” Kerwood said.
Kerwood said the Austin 7 Club and Historic Winton subcommittee would like to thank “the HMRAV, competitors, clubs, spectators, partners and sponsors, volunteers, Benalla Rural City Council, Winton Motor Raceway and all of our stakeholders for this usual extraordinary support to date.”
The committee also suggested all who may need to cancel or alter accommodation in Benalla, that where possible, to transfer this to a later date to help boost the economy of Benalla, which is set to take a hit.
• Those who have purchased tickets for Historic Winton and camping online will receive a full refund including booking fees, while drivers will also be refunded their fees.
