While senior sporting leagues failed to make it through the first COVID-19 lockdown, instead setting their sights on 2021, a number of junior leagues resumed competitions last month once restrictions eased.
But a retreat into lockdown - which is set to resume from Thursday - means several Benalla groups will again suspend their programs.
Among those affected are Benalla Hockey Club, who was able to field teams in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association's competition, while a number of female footballers who joined clubs in Shepparton and Mooroopna for this year's Youth Girls competition will also hang up the boots.
Benalla-based sports such as basketball, squash and football resumed trainings for many of its junior players, while Winton Motor Raceway held another test and tune on the weekend after an extended break.
Prior to the government's announcement, Benalla Gymnastic Club had suspended its classes on Friday after it was notified a member had been in close contact with a suspected COVID-19 case.
In a Facebook post to members, the club stated it was a precautionary measure only and had not been notified off any positive tests from coaches or members of the organisation.
The Goulburn Valley League's junior competition - which Benalla withdrew from prior to its season opener - also cancelled the weekend's round two matches last Friday after the league was notified by several clubs of possible positive cases potentially linked to clubs.
League officials were scheduled to meet on Sunday to discuss the potential cancellation of the league, before Sunday's government announcement all but confirmed its finish.
Local gyms will also be largely affected by the lockdown, forced to again close their doors to the public, while swimming pools and playgrounds will also shut.
Sports like golf, tennis and boating will continue, but hardened social distancing rules will be re-introduced, with group exercise only allowed with members of your own household or one other person.
The introduction of face masks in regional Victoria will also affect the way people exercise.
People can remove masks when not practical - like when running - but must still carry a mask to "wear when you can".
Masks must also be worn during non-strenuous activities, such as golf or bowls.
