At Ball Park last Saturday, six of Corowa’s top seven batsmen made a combined total of just 12 runs against Wodonga in the side’s eventual all out total of 108 off 48.2 overs.
Despite good bowling as always by Corowa, the total was so difficult to defend. Wodonga answered with 6/111 from 35.3 overs to win by four wickets.
Opening bat for Corowa Matt Grantham battled hard to make it to 27 but when he went the side was in real trouble at 7 for 52 after 24 overs.
Kaelan Bradtke and Jarryd Hatton battled away adding 46 runs before Hatton went for 18. When Bradtke went for 27 and then Longmire, Corowa was all out.
Jarred Lane got an early direct hit run out and when Nick Grant’s good opening spell was rewarded with the wicket of Tom Johnson, Corowa was in the game at 2 for 25. Spinners Luke Backhouse (2/29) and Jesse Moloney (0/24) bowled well without luck as Corowa just couldn’t get the breakthroughs. Bradtke was able to get two quick breakthroughs but Wodonga was able to pass the total in the 36th over.
Corowa has a huge clash against Belvoir at Kelly Park to keep their season alive, then it’s home against East Albury.
B Grade also went down in their clash with Wodonga at Les Cheesley oval. Winning the toss and batting Corowa was in early trouble as the side crumbled to 5 for 40. Opener Jordan Eyers batted well to make 35 and with support from Mak Lavis (26) and Doug Lavis (23*) Corowa was able to make 124 before being bowled out in the 33rd over.
In reply Aaron Phibbs with 3 wickets and Greg Burgess with 2 wickets had Wodonga on the ropes early reducing them to 5 for 33. But Corowa struggled to continue to take wickets with only two more wickets falling as Wodonga passed the score in the 35th over 7 wickets down.
Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) slipped to eighth on the ladder after going down to second-placed North Albury on Saturday.
Despite a good start with the ball led by skipper Danny Osborne (1/23 off eight) and Billy Raggett (2/20 off five), North Albury’s middle order settled in a posted a sizeable 180.
Several Corowa batsmen got a start, including Riley Allan (18), Martin Douglas (23) and Jacob Read (15) but none was able to kick on and threaten North Albury’s total.
An entertaining last wicket stand between Osborne (36) in swashbuckling form and Blake Keenes (11 not out), who was composed against some fast North Albury bowling, carried Corowa to 145.
But the skipper was stumped with 13 balls to spare and Corowa now face an uphill battle to secure a finals berth.
C Grade Div 2 went down by 7 wickets in their clash with Wodonga at Martin Park. Batting first Corowa was in trouble falling to 7 for 54 before Brad Glare (37) Ned Harvey (11) and Taj Smith (10) enabled Corowa to reach 103 before being bowled out in the 29th over.
In reply Wodonga cruised to victory with only Ned Harvey and Matt Shipard (2) able to take a wicket as Wodonga passed the score in the 28th over.
Blue Under 16s – The year resumed for Corowa Blue heading to Norris Park to take on a strong Lavington side. Corowa won the toss and elected to bat. Raggett and Smith looked promising early with great ball striking and rotating of strike before Smith was dismissed. Lewis headed to the crease and continued to play aggressive cricket and score freely. Raggett was dismissed for 15 which saw Ethan Hanrahan come to the crease. Lewis and Hanrahan would combine great running between the wickets and ball striking to get the side to 3-54 before Lewis was dismissed for a well made 23. Smith would join Hanrahan at the crease. The two combined for some exciting cricket with Hanrahan hitting four sixes on his way to 43* and Smith’s pace between the wickets showed taking the side to an excellent total of 110. In response the ball was thrown to Fuge to lead the way with some economic bowling. The pressure was mounting and it was Hanrahan who made the first breakthrough dismissing the dangerous Rhodes for 10. Smith would take the game into his own hands dismissing Schultheis and Griparis for ducks. With Lavington 4-24 the pressure was mounting and wickets continued to tumble for the home side with Forrest and Lewis both picking up wickets before the ball was handed to Allen to finish the game and take the last wicket which saw Lavington all out for 56.
White Under 16s - The first game back after the Christmas break saw Corowa White take on East Albury at home. East Albury won the toss and batted first and were restricted to 77 after their 20 overs thanks to a great allround bowling and fielding effort by the boys with Jay 2/6, Jackson 2/5 and Leroy 1/8. The highlight of the game was a brilliant direct hit runout by Lachlan Ireland filling in for his first game.
Our batsmen weren’t challenged with Jay 20 and Brodie 19 putting on 52 for the first wicket. Isaac chipped in with 19 and we passed the score with 5 overs to go. Great effort!
White Under 14s – A good win for young Under 14 side against New City at Ernest Grant oval. Batting first Eli Lavis (29), Levi Phibbs (45) and Archie Bedford (17) all batted well which enabled the side to amass 9 for 159 off their 20 overs.
In reply early wickets to Eli Lavis (26) had Corowa on top and with Rhylee Barber (1/5), Toby Hanrahan (1/8) and Franklin Murray-Wright (2/16) all bowling well Corowa was able to restrict New City to 7 for 85 off their 20 overs.
Blue Under 14s - Kiewa won the toss and batted. Corowa boys bowled well. Jayden Forge taking 3 wickets and Jacob Kremmer took 2 wickets. Benji Hanrahan, Tyler Abley, Brodie Eyers and Logan Chappel all took a wicket each. Kiewa finished their 20 overs all out for 57.

Tex Longmire 2, Benji Hanrahan crafted a good innings of 30 not out. (retired). Leroy Chester picked the gaps in the field to finish on 30 as well, not out. Logan Chappel made 1, Archer Coppolino a quick 9 not out and Ashton Wynne went to the crease without facing a delivery. Corowa finished 6 for 107. Great effort from all the boys with over half the team playing Under 16s the night before. Great commitment boys.
White Under 12s - Having won the toss, the boys took to the crease, staring down a solid opening bowling attack. Eli Lavis took to the length quickly, striking 42 from his 25 balls, including 7 fours and a six. He was replaced by Josh Kremmer, who also managed to face his 25 balls, retiring with 6 runs. Levi Arnold continued to toil away, batting for the opening 12 overs and eventually retiring for a well-made 28 runs. When the first wicket eventually fell, the boys already had 115 runs on the board, going on to score a very respectable 3/142 from their 20 overs.
The Howlong openers also started solidly and managed to put on 51 runs before the first wicket fell. However, some excellent fielding and some very solid bowling from Levi Arnold (2/5), Cooper Patten (2/4), Jagger Doody (1/4), Lachie Douglas (1/3) and Toby Hanrahan (1/3) allowed the boys to restrict the opposition to 78. A very solid outing for their first game back. Well done, boys!
Blue Under 12s – Corowa Blue had a good win over Lavington Teal in their clash at Morris Park.
