The highlight of the championships for the GVHA was undoubtedly the performances of the under-18s girls outfit — who took home the bronze medal in nail-biting fashion.
After four fantastic wins and one draw rocketed them to second spot, the girls came up against ladder-leader West Gippsland in the final, losing out 5-0 after a hard-fought display.
This put them in equal second place with Ballarat, with who they were completely even on points, right down to goal percentage.
A penalty shoot-out was the ultimate decider, with five players from each team given eight seconds to score against the goalkeeper.
But even that would prove difficult to separate the sides.
Three goals apiece after the first five shots meant it would go down to golden goal, with Ballarat booking their place in the final with a successful shot after GV missed.
There were a host of other fine performances across the GVHA age groups.
The under-13 boys collected one win, three draws and two losses from their outing, with SYC’s Noah Gillies, Oliver Gillies and Echuca’s William Kerr among the standouts for their side.
The under-15 boys were unlucky not to medal, collecting two wins, two draws and one loss to finish in fourth.
Young gun Sam Holland continues his meteoric rise, netting five goals to spearhead the scoring for his side.
Also unlucky to miss out on a medal were the under-15 girls, who produced some fine displays with four wins, one draw and one loss after their games.
The Strikers duo of Emme Cole and Alex Druitt, along with the Mooroopna trio of Evie Galea, Mia Ponting and Abigail Vaivers, all combined well across the weekend.
After a loss in their first game, the under-18 boys turned things around to finish in fifth, putting up two wins and two draws.
Age-level MVPs will be awarded later in the year.
