Teal Hocking and Morgan Dingwall had their work cut out for them being paired against some very skilful and tall defenders, however, the girls were shooting beautifully.
In the mid-court Ella Roulston, alongside younger sister Charlee, drove strongly down the court on the circle edge and found a great connection with the shooters and each other.
Ellie Cuttriss and Tess Ringin were also strong through the mid-court and showed patience and skill in delivering the ball down the court and in to the goalers.
In the defence end, Maddie Egglestone and Bridgette Holt battle hard against tall goalers, taking possession of many important intercepts and rebounds when given the opportunity.
Seymour showed all their strength while Rochester ran out of legs. This gave Seymour the chance to take the lead. The end score was 35-47, Seymour’s way.
Best: Morgan Dingwall, Charlee Roulston and Ella Roulston.
B-grade
In the B-grade match, Rochester took a thrilling and hard two-point victory, defeating Seymour 47-45.
Rochester started the game slowly and early mistakes proved costly, leaving them behind at the first break.
Goalers Sahra Brooks and Annie Hughes started to combine and hit their straps along with changes in the mid-court also helping the girls claw back the lead.
Eliza Williams came on to the court, bringing great pressure and defensive effort, while Linda Rasmussen and Maddy Holt were again brilliant in defence. They worked hard to create intercepts across the court and pull in rebounds at every opportunity.
The game went right down to the wire with Rochester holding their nerve and converting 100 per cent in the final quarter.
Best: Lil Ward, Eliza Williams and Sahra Brooks.
B-reserve
It was a hard game for the B-reserves girls on Saturday, with Rochester going down to Seymour 44-56.
The game started well with lots of drives through the centre court. Accurate shooting from the goalers who worked very well in the ring left Rochester only three down at quarter time.
Defenders worked hard all game against very accurate shooting from the opposition. The attacking end combined beautifully, with Stacy and Naomi feeding well into the ring.
Payton played a nice game at goal defence after coming on at half-time. Overall it was a tough game with great passages of play.
Best: Ella McPhee, Alyse Stroobants and Naomi Riordan.
Under-17
The under-17 girls had a great nine-point lead against Seymour in the first quarter. Poppy Palmer, Ava Cottam, Kaitlyn Joyce and the fresh legs of Tara Atley denied the majority of the passes down in the defence end.
The girls pulled in rebounds on both ends of the court. In the shooting end, Charlotte Gould held strong against Seymour’s physical defence and shot with great accuracy, as did Leila Palmer and Matisse Martin.
Alannah Weeks ran most quarters in the mid-court, taking intercepts on long-lobbed passes. The combination of Alannah with Alex Ingram in wing attack, saw great feeds into the goalers.
Strong hand pressure throughout the entire end of the court and overall a great team effort from the girls. The under-17 team took a great win, 35-22.
Best: Matisse Martin, Poppy Palmer and Alannah Weeks.
Under-15
The under-15 girls started off tight in defence, causing many turnovers, and used their voices to assist in transitioning down the court.
Maddy Pearse started strong in defence with Maddie Howard taking some strong rebounds and intercepts. Another great game by Charlize bringing the ball down and using her speed to change direction down the court.
Grace slotted in perfectly down both ends of the court and shot beautifully, connecting well with Payton. Imogen had an outstanding half in defence mixing up defensive plays and gaining crucial balls.
It was great versatility by the girls, taking the win by eight goals: Rochester 38 defeated Seymour 30.
Best: Charlize, Maddy Pearse and Imogen.
