The midweek team lost by eight shots, division five lost by 15 shots and the new division seven combination went down by 14 shots.
Midweek played at Hill Top and found the fast greens very hard to manage.
John Firmer, Alan Dennis, Clive Baxter and Barry Parsons didn’t have much trouble and beat G McMullen’s team by 10 shots.
They dropped six shots on the first end and it took until end eight to catch up.
Scores were level again on end 13, then Merrigum settled in and outscored Hill Top by 10 shots over the last eight ends.
Carol Firmer, Colin Capes, Melanie Kumar and John Bailey had a good game against Wayne Shepherd’s team but fell short by six shots.
The scores were level after end 17 but Tatura Hill Top played strongly over the last ends to win the match.
In the final game, Joe Chant, Neil Gardiner, Noreen Earl and Graeme Hubble drew with Paul Deane’s team and were never in the hunt.
Their opponents were too consistent and won easily by 12 shots.
On Saturday, Merrigum travelled to Murchison and lost overall by eight shots.
With a few ends to play we looked to have a chance but unfortunately Murchison outscored us by 16 shots to five over the final three ends.
Joe Chant Greg Pell, Peter Warburton and Graeme Hubble played Wayne Brown’s team and won by five shots.
Merrigum hit the front after end five and was always in control for the rest of the game. All players made a contribution. It was good to see Warburton back playing bowls.
John Firmer, Alan Dennis, Clive Baxter and Barry Parsons drew with Tony Martin’s team and went down by 10 shots.
Unfortunately the Merrigum players never played up to their potential and Murchison deserved to win.
In the last game, David Pettifer, Colin Capes, Neil Gardiner and John Bailey played Geoff Higgins’ team and lost by 12 shots.
This game was really close up until end 17 when the scores were level.
Over the final four ends the Murchison combination outscored Merrigum by 12 shots to zip and certainly deserved the victory.
Division seven hosted Eildon and went down by 14 shots. This is very encouraging for the club to have these younger members who we hope will be the future of the club.
Mark Parsons, Kellie Parsons Tracey Cannon (sub) and Ken Phillips played against a strong Eildon rink and lost by 11 shots.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t decipher the names of the opposition players.
Carol Firmer, Emily Parsons Alicia Parsons and Wendy Baxter played C Fox’s team and lost by three shots.
Merrigum led for the first 15 ends but Eildon finished more strongly winning a very close game. Well done Merrigum girls, you played very well.
